Terms & conditions
The Snorkel Benchmark Grants Program (“the Program”) supports open, public AI benchmarks created in collaboration with academic researchers. By checking the consent box (or by using Snorkel-provided resources), you agree to participate under these terms.
Program Summary
- The Snorkel Benchmark Grants Program provides in-kind research support (data services, engineering, and research collaboration).
- The purpose of the Program is to produce open-source datasets, benchmarks, and/or academic publications for the research community.
- No cash funding is provided.
What you receive
By participating in the Program, Snorkel will provide one or more of the following:
- Access to Snorkel’s Expert Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) offering
- Dedicated time from Snorkel’s research and engineering teams
- Partner benefits as noted on the website, including compute and platform credits to select third party platforms
Any stated grant amount reflects the estimated value of services, not money paid to you or your institution.
What you agree to
By participating in the Program, you agree that:
- Open research output
You will own the IP in the datasets, benchmarks, tools, and other research artifacts you create through the Program. However, you agree to make those Program outputs publicly available under a permissive open-source/open-data license (e.g., MIT or Apache 2.0 for software; CC BY 4.0/CC0 or another mutually agreed license for data), so anyone can use, modify, and share them under that license. - All other IP
Anything you developed independently before or outside the Program stays yours (or your institution’s, as applicable), and Snorkel's platform and tools stay ours. The only shared piece is the open-source output you create through the Program, which everyone can use under the open-source license. - Papers and Publications
Any papers or written publications resulting from the Project can be retained by you or your institution. We ask that Snorkel's support of the work is acknowledged, or, when appropriate under standard academic authorship criteria, that Snorkel researchers are credited as contributors or co-authors. - Institutional alignment
You’ve reviewed your institution’s intellectual property policies and believe the Project and open-source release/acknowledgement rights are permitted. By participating, you confirm that this Project and its open-source release/acknowledgement rights align with your institution’s policies. You’ll notify Snorkel’s legal department (legal@snorkel.ai) and immediately stop work if you have ownership or licensing concerns or your institution raises them to you. - Authority to participate
You have the necessary approvals (if any) from your institution to participate and to release the output as open source/credit Snorkel as a contributor or author. Snorkel may ask you to prove you have authority to participate at any time. - Respect for third-party rights
The output won’t infringe third-party intellectual property, and any third-party materials used are compatible with open-source licensing.
A few important details
- In-kind only: No cash or cash equivalents are provided.
- No cash value: Credits and service hours aren’t transferable or redeemable.
- IP rights: Any datasets or artifacts will be owned by you or your institution and released as open source; any publications may be owned by you or your institution with acknowledgement to Snorkel
- Program changes: Snorkel may end participation at any time; unused credits expire.
- As-is support: Snorkel provides services and data without warranties.
- Confidentiality: Non-public information shared during the project is confidential; the final open-source output is not.
- Governing law: California law applies.
Public acknowledgment
You allow Snorkel to reference your name, institution, project summary, and resulting open-source output when describing or promoting the Benchmark Grants Program.
